If it's fairly fresh, you could try this: put a slightly damp cloth (maybe a tea towel) over the stain and iron over it with a fairly hot iron, but be careful you don't mark the table. With a bit of luck it might draw the grease into the cloth as it dries out. I haven't tried it, it just seems like it might work.

Be careful you don't scorch the wood!

Please do NOT try snook's tip judie!! If you use an iron on a damp cloth on wood, you will end up with white stained wood!!...My oak table was badly stained by water marks, and by a tip on a furniture site...I tried a medium DRY iron, using circular motions on a 100% cotton DRY tea towel. It really made a big difference. I don't know if it would work on a grease ,mark...but..I can't see how it would do any harm?.The idea being to soak up the moisture from the wood.

Judiewudie,

I used this method some years ago and was amazes how well it worked.

Spread talcum powder over the stain and cover with brown paper(as in parcel wrapping paper). Then iron with a just warm iron, and you will see the grease appearing on the paper as it draws it up.

This is not a wind up - I'm genuine.

Good luck
