Ok he says he's 40 today, etc etc. That is no excuse whatsoever for turning into an old fogey virtually overnight. Whatever happened to playing groundbreaking new tracks? He is playing such poor tracks these days.

Even R2 would have to agree they have come a long way in the last few years. However I just heard Chris' special guests today are Bruce Forsythe and David Jacobs...now I feel like a fogey for listening.

Now I'm kind of dreading drivetime.

Chris Evans playing groundbreaking new tracks - when was this exactly? Bringing Ocean Colour Scene and the wretched Kula Shaker to the nation's attention 10 years ago hardly makes him John Peel. I always thought he just saw the music he had to play as an irritation that got in the way of his "amusing" (note the inverted commas) banter with his *ahem* posse. I was going to listen to a little R2 this afternoon, having forgotten that he was on. It didn't stay on long.

BTW, is David Jacobs still alive then??!!?

Radio 2 don't play groundbreaking new tracks, Chris Evans has never played groundbreaking new tracks.

Radio 2 play middle of the road new tracks or possibly tracks that were groundbreaking when they released over 5 years ago.

If you want groundbreaking new music listen to pirate radio or maybe Radio 1 after 7pm. Not Radio 2 on a saturday afternoon!!

What I am trying to say was that 10 years ago or so he was very passionate about music, playing a lot of new stuff as opposed to some of the awful dance tracks going on at the time.

No he was never a John Peel littleoldme I didn't say that. ll_billym he hasn't been on R2 more than 6 months or so, and I wasn't saying R2 play groundbreaking tracks! I was saying that he as he is now is playing stuff not even fit for the R2 playlist. Phew!

By the way littleoldme I too wondered about David Jacobs, unfortunately I didn't stay listening long enough to find out.

'Breakfast Shows' and 'Drive Time' shows are the most listened to shows in radio broadcasting. As such, they are usually filled with predictable tracks ie; the ones "that everybody likes".

Since Chris Evans has always seems to have presented these peak-time shows, I too, fail to see how he could be described as 'groundbreaking'.

Yes heard him last year, and as I turned 40 last year and added R2 to my list. But mainly listen to XFM and London Live (do really like vanessa and robert elms). BUT this is the man who invited Texas on every second bloo@@y week. He has got jaded. But I do like access to R2

The tracks Chris Evans plays are Ok, Its just Chris Evans himself who is a bore and he is very lucky that Bruce Forsythe and David Jacobs want to be his guests anyway. I would have thought thay had better things to do.
