Difficult to believe this but apparently its true. Too many glasses of Port at lunch perhaps ?

I know it looks bad but falling alseep in situations like that are not planned. There could be a number of reasons why.
Trial at Crown Court are very expensive. Judges are extremely well paid. Perhaps a forefit of wages might offset this costly error?

Not acceptable, but we do not know if the accusation is true, and if it is what the circumstances were for the recorder. May have been unwell ?
I know it looks bad, but perhaps not surprising. He might not have missed much anyway. I've been in courts and seen how slow everything is. Endless delays between questions while someone writes down every single word spoken, clarifications and explanations for ridiculously simple concepts... He might have just nodded off for a moment, but still got the important points.
If this proven and the judge had no acceptable explanation then it is unforgivable.What an example to set for our justice system.You only expect this sort of behaviour in the Houses of Parliament!!
