Can anyone tell me when the best time is to start cutting the lawn again (yes the jokes been done when it gets long) people have told me not to start cutting it again till mid april/may. Is this true ??
Apart from frosty/icy weather it's ok to give lawns anytime now. Just take the top off for the first couple of trims & cut shorter if you want to after that. Mine has only just started to grow here in Derbys & hasn't needed doing yet but last year it was cut in February.
haha just realised it sounds daft to say take the top off - you're not going to take the bottom off are you? It's the way we talk here....I think you know what I mean. :-)
I'm never in a great rush to cut mine, any time in early april suits me, although some people may have started a few weeks back. In doing your first cut on a high setting, I think is good advice and particularly if you live in a region that has a hose pipe ban, its probably a good idea to leave it on the long side anyway to stop it drying out so much.
Well, ours was cut yesterday and looks much better for it, but in mild winters I've been out cutting it in early January if the grass hasn't been too wet. The risk of frost should be getting lower now so unless you're in the far north of Scotland and still expecting snow or really bitterly cold weather you should be OK>
I think it depends on where you live. Here in the South most people where I live have given theirs a cut, keeping the mower blades set at high. I did mine last week.
