It does seem that if you re-invent language sufficiently, you can make people believe that these officers were not guilty of letting this man die in front of them, when they could have prevented it.

This case is shocking in its entirety. Did anyone see the programme about it on BBC last year? They showed the video of this poor bloke's full yet brief time in custody. There were monkey noises being made in the background on at least 2 occasions as he lay on the floor, his life ebbing away.
As an ex Serviceman I'm slightly biased but it makes my blood boil to think that a young man who served and fought for his country(he was a Falklands veteran) died on the floor of a custody area, his trousers around his ankles and choking on his own blood and vomit whilst policemen stood and watched, some making derogatory sounds.
Unwitting racism? Intentional, beyond a doubt.
