peeing when camping!

whats the rule when camping and you need a wee in the middle of the night is it ok to pee in a bush or is the right thing to do going to the toilet block?

please help as last year was my first time camping and i woke up desperate for the loo but only managed to get outside the tent and had to do it there, same thing happened to my mum, i was scared of getting caught and being throw of the site.

I would say the right thing to do is go to the toilet block. It wouldn't be very pleasant if everyone did it in the bushes, the campsite would really start to smell. Plus it wouldn't be nice to walk in. I'm sure the campsite owners wouldn't be very happy about it either.

Very simple really, if your camping at a site, its hygenic to use the facilities provided, even if they are the other side of camp.

Well emily howard (you ARE a lady!) many's the time I have been caught short and had to squat right outside.

Just got to hope no-one else gets caught short at the same time.

As for hygiene and smells, the rain will soon wash it away (and we all know it always rains when you're camping).

Been camping every year since I was about seven years old (I'm now 19) and so long as you don't mind its fine to just go behind the tent! Obviously if it's one of these posh sites with lampposts you may not want to as it'll be bright but otherwise it's fine!

No disrespect but I don't really understand the 'camping in groups' thing. I love camping but usually I/we look for a hilltop with a view.

In the absence of toilet blocks, we sometimes use waterproof jacket pockets.

But we NEVER empty them into the bushes... That's just wrong!

i agree about the camping in groups thing. almost every time I have set up a tent in an empty field, only to wake up next morning, or get back after a day out to find another few tents parked inches away, and the rest of the field still empty! why do people do this? why do they assume that i want complete strangers right next to me during my holiday, and why do they want to do it? i want some space! i don't mind them being in the area, but i'd say 10metres away would suit me.

don't see a problem with outdoor weeing though, it just goes into the soil and rain. why are people so afraid of of this sort of thing?

thank you all advise taken if i need to pee i need to pee if i get caught well the size of my ar*e people will think it a full moon

mudman and joko its just usually myself and my mum with the kids so we are happy that there are people close by, two ladies on their own in the middle of an empty field (peeing) isn't very safe.

I go camping every year, love it. The only problem I had with going to the loo during the night was the year was when I was 7 months pregnant- the outside of my tent got very well watered during the night on that particular holiday!!!!

Many years ago when we used to go camping, my husband knew how much I hated going to the toilet block in the night, so, for Christmas he gave me the best present EVER. A bucket with a lid. And he used to empty it for me in the mornings. Is that true love?

I see your point ronnie, but thats not really my problem. why should my holiday be ruined because I have uninvited strangers 2 feet away from me, separated only by a piece of cloth? especially ones with kids! hearing every word and movement i make and i can hear them.

how do you know we are not planning to be up all night partying and playing music and even shaggin? you can't expect people to be quiet for you, if you have parked right next to them in an empty field.

I like to have people about to say hi to and chat to and even sit with for a while, but i want to move away again when it suits me.

as i said, same vicinity is fine but not right up close - i think its rude.

After our first year as camping virgins we became wise to the fact that however sociable and friendly campers are, you don't want any neighbours anywhere near your pitch. The next year we decided to pitch our tent up with the back facing outwards. Who cares what people think - its our holiday and it gives us total privacy. You can even pee and nobody knows!!
