My little on has just turned a month old and is struggling to fill his nappy. He is going but with some straining and when he does go its almost like rabbit poo but slightly bigger (sorry about the too much info lol)
Just wondered if i should change his milk, Health visitor advised giving him one teaspoon of fresh orange in his water, but this isnt a long term solution is it.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and if so what is the best thing to do.
I feel so sorry for him when he is trying to go, it makes me so sad that i cant do much to help him :-(

A drink of cooled, boiled water may help a lot - rabbit dropping poo suggests not enough liquid.
just like adult humans perhaps.....
bloody hell, I wish so called HV's would stop advising oj for babies be it a tsp or a bottle full. Advice of what to put in a bottle? Milk or water, nothing else and they still continue with this archaic advice

Anyway, solid poo like rabbit droppings is not always a sign of constipation but, as hc said, more a sign of no quite enough fluid. Extra water is the way to go
mine was the same - and he had terrible colic too. Not sure if your little one is bottle fed or not, but we changed milk to Cow & Gate Comfort (which is for colic and constipation) - it did seem to help a bit, especially as i could never get my little darling to drink water! hope it helps xx
You can give diluted pear or prune juice - unlike the citric juices, you can give these virtually from birth (in small doses like 0.5 to 1 oz).

But when they go for over 24 hours without doing any smellies, you really need to put a baby-size glycerine suppository (or a sliver of soap lubed with vaseline). No side-effects, no addictive properties, and either one will make him do a dooey in 5 to 15 minutes.
