Corrie - Bailiffs.... Spoiler Alert!
18 Answers
In last night's Corrie, the bailiffs went to Debbie Windass'/Owen Armstrong's house and entered the house while only Faye was present. I've always thought bailiffs weren't allowed to enter a house if only a child (e.g. someone under the age of 16) was present. OK, before we get the usual 'It's not real life, it's only a soap' merchants, surely even soaps have a duty to reflect real life in an accurate way when dealing with a subject of bailiffs and their rights. To be fair, there was an announcement before the episode that some viewers may find the scenes upsetting. I did find them a little upsetting, especially when they took Faye's laptop, but I was more concerned those scenes might be misleading.
This is a quote from the Gov.UK website:-
'Bailiffs can’t:
enter your home if only children or vulnerable people are present'.

Just wondered what others thought about how bailiffs were portrayed in this episode.

Did the bailiffs know that Faye was home alone? I don't recall her saying that, she just invited them in without giving them a chance to speak.
Once they realised Faye was on her own, they should have left immediately but Gary turned up which allowed them to stay.
They can and do take personal pcs, laptops and smartphones. They shouldn't take goods belonging to children and if they do they should be returned if the proper procedure is followed. Usually it is necessary to prove ownership which should be easy with a laptop. If it has Owen's business accounts on it it will be harder to prove it is solely Faye's.
