If dust clouds are billowing up and blowing into a local shopping area and surrounding houses, is the construction company liable for cleaning-up costs?
Just near me is a construction site, it's brownfield so I'm not too bothered but I'm aware that contained in the dust blowing round could be anything, the ground used to be an old WWII airfield with asbestos roofed buildings etc that were demolished several years ago.
I can smell a claim. (no pun intended) Maybe not now but in the future...

If someone contracted mesothelioma from the asbestos dust a claim wouldn't do them a lot of good.

A claim would help the family of anyone who was to develop mesothelioma.
Not sure who would pay the compensation. Current developer or the demolishers. I would think the demolishers for not making it safe, if it were shown there is asbestos in the dust.

In my view you are scaremongering.
The control of asbestos regs is well-established in the building industry and it is inconceivable on a commercial contract of this size that an assessment has not previously occurred. Removal of asbestos using controlled processes then occurs prior to any general demolition work occurring.

're dust. Yes, and that is an issue worth pursuing. The contractor has an obligation to provide a process that minimises dust to acceptable levels.
But don't press the asbestos nuclear button - just demonstrates ignorance.
