Speedo Not Working On Citroen

Hi There
Drove my Citroen C5 2 litre diesel estate (2001) yesterday and saw that the speedo wasn't working. All other dials OK and mileometer working. Any ideas?

Probably the stepper motor on the speedo.

Thank you both for your swift replies. I have marked gangesboy as 'best' simply for introducing me to the citroen owners club. I have disconnected the battery in the small hope that it will right the problem. I will let you know.

Glad to help elgreco and good luck. I have a 2008 Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 diesel VTR+ auto and I have had no problems with this car. My only gripe is that when moving off in 1st gear, the engine seems to take ages before getting up speed. It "lurches" forward. This is a known characteristic. I have learnt to allow extra distance when joining traffic because of the slow acceleration.

no luck following battery re-connection. I will go to local garage for a diagnostic and hopefully confirm it is the stepper motor as tonyav suggested or perhaps the sensor.
