Taxing Car At A Post Office ....

.... just had my renewal through and I notice that I no longer need to provide proof of insurance .... yet I still need to show my M.O.T. certificate .....
Eh ???
In this digital age that we're living in, the powers that be can check if your car is insured ..... and by the same token, they can also check if your car has an up to date M.O.T. ..... so why the freakin' hell do I need to show my M.O.T. certificate ??
Yea, okay I know it's no big deal .... I'm just wondering why the post office hasn't moved with the times !!
.... and before you say it - yea I know I can tax it online, but I deal primarily in cash, so paying with cash is easier for me :)

Certainly is bizarre.I haven't retaxed at a PO for a while now and was'nt aware of this strange anomaly.A police patrol car can assertain a vehicles insurance and MoT credentials at a touch of a button,likewise DVLA on line so,as you say,what's the point of the PO asking for MoT evidence.

The point may be that the PO doesn't yet have the facility to query the database from the counter - maybe they should have, and maybe it will come

That, of course, maybe true dzug2 but if the DVLA renewal form says no requirement to produce insurance at the counter it should say no requirement to produce MoT on the form as well.They have the evidence, as it proves, when applying on line.

On the form I received, it says I need to provide a valid M.O.T. certificate.
I'm going to tax it today, so I'll let you know if I'm asked for my M.O.T. certificate, as I won't produce it unless I'm asked .... watch this space ;)

The PO site says
'A valid MOT/GVT/PSVC if required – your vehicle tax reminder will tell you if you need this'

So some will and some won't - odd.

No, it's not odd Chelle. If your car is less than 3 years old it doesn't require an MoT, so some do and some don't need one.

i taxed a car on the 01/07 at the po and wasnt asked for the mot

Well, I've just been to the post office and taxed my car. I handed my form over with the dosh and smiled at the lady, with my M.O.T. in my pocket and she filled everything in and handed me my new tax disc - no mention of the M.O.T.
Are the DVLA that lazy, that they can't be bothered to remove the bit where it says you need to provide your M.O.T. certificate if taxing at a post office ??

What did it say on the form that you got through the post ??
Mine said I needed to show a valid M.O.T. certificate - no mention of insurance. When I got to the post office, I didn't need to show any of them .... what gives lol ??
