I am about to go from an ancient iPhone 3gs to a 5C and need to back everything up. I have linked to iCloud, but in order to save my notes I have to create some new @me.com email address. What does this entail, and will it interfere with my normal (aol) email address which I have set up on my phone, and want to keep?

no it won't interfere with your other addresses. I have got 5 email addresses including two apple ones.
