Hi I'm painting some large medieval banners on cotton velvet and some on heavy linen. I've been using fabric paints so far which work well but the banners are very large (8ft x 4ft) and it's costing a fortune. Do you think kid's normal acrylic paints would do as well, as that's waterproof and bendable in theory and it doesn't need to be a very thick layer just be sunk into the fabric, as it cna look quite quite battle worn and distressed? I'm up for any other ideas as well if anyone has any. Thanks in advance:)

You've just got to try it on some scraps , might need thinning down.

Yeah I was thinking that- it's a 20 mile trip to Hereford though which is about the nearest habitable place, so I was hoping if someone definitively knew it was a bad idea they might be able to say :)
