Does anyone know how to get the black off bottom of iron

If the black doesn't mark the stuff you are ironing then there is no need to try to remove it. If it does then turn the iron up high and iron some waste cotton such as an old T shirt until until it doesn't mark. If you try to remove it with chemicals you could damage the iron.,

If it is iron bar, use an abrasive paper to scratch it off, although it probably wouldn't hurt to work it with the black on.

If it is an iron for pressing clothes, then lots of elbow grease ? Any household / kitchen cleaner would help I suspect.
