However from 1 October his year, tax discs will no longer be issued and won't need to be displayed on any vehicle.
same as cars, I think; they're changing the law but not for a couple of months

ok thanks guys
if your tax disc hasn't run out by October you will still need to keep your current tax disc showing as the dvla do not yet know what they are going to do. everyone will be informed
whilst it is a requirement to display a disc on a bike, the authorities round here recognize that if you do, it will be stolen. my biker friend carries his in his wallet, as suggested to him by our local plod.
My tax is due September so it will be one of the last ones issued. I will keep it as a souvenir .
I presume the staff at DVLA who issue tax discs will be made redundant then to save some cash? On the plus side it will stop those queues at the Post Office with people buying the new Tax disc and holding everyone up.
I am certain you do still need to display your tax disc. The government is reportedly doing away with an actual paper disc for all vehicles, as the police can check if you have paid up by looking at an online database without even stopping your car, but they have not implemented it yet.
October I believe, Impret-Sir.
If your local small post office issues tax discs you might find them closing after October as a lot of them run on very tight lines, and the loss of the revenue ( commission ) that they get from tax discs could be the difference between staying afloat and going under. They even get commission from the free tax discs issued to pre 1973 vehicles. Such a nice feeling to get a tax disc for nothing for my old motorbikes !
