According to this piece 1928...

The English are silly for baked beans and owe thanks to an industrious American for tinned beans. The HJ Heinz Company, born in 1888, rolled British made baked beans off the line in 1928. They have been immensely popular ever since and the Heinz Company reports that they make 1.5 million cans of baked beans every day. As further testament to the success of their baked beans, the "Beanz Meanz Heinz" ad ran for 22 years. Now, home cooks and well-heeled chefs gussy up their favorite convenience food in a myriad of ways from posh beans (whole grain mustard added to a plain tin of beans) on toast, to curried beans and bacon spooned over a baked potato

Fortnum and Mason began selling Heinz Baked Beans in 1901 - presumably an American import at that time.
A little known fact, Marcus, and a useless piece of information, but did you know that the beans and sauce are sealed in the tins and THEN cooked, not the other way round??
