When one of them is opened this sends power to the pump and when it was stuck in the opened position the pump ran continuously. I hope this helps,

I have a similar problem. It is to do with the way the zone valve 'rests'. It has had several new motors during it's 25 year life and is perhaps ready for another.
If the hot water is satisfied and the time switch switches of whilst in this condition then the motor continues to run. If the hot water is not satisfied it will switch off properly.
I suppose the 'pull' on the zone valve is not working adequately to get it to the off position in certain situations.
