My partner has just become Self Employed as a Painter & Decorator. He is not computer literate at all so I have done it for him. I have registered him online for Self Assessment & received the activation code and that is all set up. Will he receive his UTR number through the post? I am self employed also but it was so long ago I can't remember what happened.

I had a credit card sized piece of card sent with the UTR number. I think they do this to ensure the registration is tied to the address registered online. But this was ten years ago and things at have changed.

The card they sent me had my user id on it, Sycamore. The UTR should have been allocated when you registered and should appear when you log in to the HMRC site.

Just logged in & found the number. Hope he gets sent a little card though. Thanks for all you help. He can get paid now been living off fresh air for 6 weeks.
