This morning I have been driven to distraction with constant messages from AVG detection saying that a threat has been removed. The threat is JS/FakeCodec which AVG has removed umpteen times this morning.
I have done a full AVG scan and a Malware Bytes scan and yet this message keeps popping up but only when using AB.
Windows 7 Google Chrome.
When I switched to IE the messages stopped nut AB is so slow on there.
Yes, the java thing takes over only on AB then have to do a scan then restart so not going into AB on the laptop. The upside is I'm familiarising myself with the iPad.
Ive managed to turn off the AVG notifications so all I get now is a brief delay whilst typing when they would still appear. Ah well, better than yesterday I suppose....
I have just began to use my laptop for the first time today and that JS/FakeCodec virus is still being removed by AVG, on this site only. It is really, really annoying!
Tilly, from memory, as I am using my phone at the min, you need to click on the 'account' tab on the AVG dashboard and there are a number of ticked boxes. Just remove the 'block notifications' tick, accept to save the changes. Let me know how you get on!
Tilly- it's probably because there is an advert on AB with some sort of suspect code that produces these messages about updates (AVG, Java, Windows). Ed needs to track down the offending ads and deal with them. He's tackled them before and no doubt will be on the case first thing when he sees all the entries in Ed's Blog.
Ideally all ads would be vetted before appearing for the first time or the Ed should ban ads from known offenders, but maybe neither of those approaches is feasible
Morning Tilly. I suppose you wouldn't have known when you first posted that it was an issue affecting other ABers so Technology was probably the right section initially. It may be worth putting a note in Ed's Blog now though with a link to this thread asking him to look into it. Alternatively you could email him via Contact Us .
I think Ed and his team of Techies (probably just one man/woman/gnome) will be busy this morning.
This is the first time for about a week that I have not had Java messages interrupting . It is only on the AB site. I have tried everything to remove it and am keeping my fingers crossed that it has gone . I use IE and Windows 7 and have never had any problemsi with it. Don't know why Tilly2 found AB slow when she tried IE.
