Kitchen Worktop Repair

My kitchen worktops are the usual Formica covered chipboard. Adjacent to the drop in sink I have a drinking water spigot tap which is broken and I would like to remove it. This will result in a (approx) 12mm hole through the worktop being exposed, which would of course allow water to gain access to the chipboard. Does any ABer have any ideas as to what material I could use to fill this hole please. My thoughts are possibly Isopon or is there a resin I could pour in. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would have thought one could get a screw down cover of some sort to waterseal it top & base. Failing that some kind of circular material glued down with waterproof glue maybe ? Just my first thoughts.

The trick is to get the right size.

The other thing is to use a chrome or stainless steel bolt with a domed head on the bolt .......... a "coach bolt". About 2" (50mm) length should do it. For a 12mm hole, an M10 bolt should do it (M10 is the size - 10mm diameter)

A little smear of silicone sealant under the head will keep the water out.
