My daughter had to come to England to get contraception.
Not all health professionals in Ireland are Catholic, though.
I'm amazed that you can't get contraception in Ireland!
She could have gone to NI. The is a Marie Stopes clinic in Belfast.
True..

But you can't just turn up at a random surgery.
You can Carrust....it just depends where you live. She was living in a tiny village in Mayo.

hc...I live in England and she's registered here so kills two birds with one stone. Come visit yer mammy and get your contraception (and yes...she paid for it)
Thinking about it, though, the law changed ages ago and contraception is available all over Ireland, including the morning after pill. You can buy contraceptives in chemists and get the prescription for the pill.
If the GP won't prescribe it there are plenty who will, or you can it from the IFPA in Dublin
I stand corrected.
kin religion eh? it'll be the end of us all!

The woman was an illegal seeking asylum. Why should other countries bow to these requests? Surely India could serve her needs. Indians abort female foetus without any compassion.

Heard on the news that any medic or person in Ireland who aborts a babe is subject to 12years imprisonment.
I have read both links and nowhere does it say she is an illegal immigrant or asylum seeker. Where are you getting this information from?

Aljazeera news repeats

Its annoying that the story is on Aljazeera news as this is more a global network than BBC, Sky or CNN. Imo
It was on Radio4 news bulletins a couple of days ago. The link to the main story on the BBC site is http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28833128

The woman's name is is not being released, though it does say that her immigration status was such that she could not leave the ROI to get a termination elsewhere.

Something is odd in this though. The panel which assessed her mental state decided that she was a suicide risk, but then did not permit the abortion.

From what I recall of the discussion on R4 the other day, the law has been changed, but there is a large grey area around it, and the panel's refusal to permit the abortion will probably be covered by that grey area.

The OP seems rather wonky, but that said, it’s quite appalling that people of religious conviction have the power to impose their views upon those who do not hold similar convictions.
