Any of his films stay with you? I'll have to have a look again at Brighton Rock

He said they were both lovely, genuinely lovely, kind , thoughtful people. Lord A was always a gentleman, a true old fashioned , well mannered, courteous gentleman at all times. It was always a pleasure for him to visit them.
10 Rillington Place is the one that really stays with me, His performance as Christie is absolutely chilling. His quiet demeanour and lisping voice sent shivers down my spine the first time I saw it. Brighton Rock of course-playing against type he gave us a psychotic thug in Pinkie-the end and the broken record a master stroke. Flight of the Phoenix, The Great Escape-and as a director Cry Freedom made a real impact on me-the end credit list of all the victims of apartheid was particularly poignant, and , naturally, Ghandi, which was probably the last great 'bio' epic and (deep joy) beat ET at the Oscars. Lovely man, unassuming and erudite. RIP.
