For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.lists lists lists. plan plan plan. will have moved a 3+ bed house twice in 18 mths by the end of the month (i hope!!) first time with a 1 yr old by ourselves (fam help) and this time with a company (longer distance & v. pregnant wife). You carnt beat lists of stuff to do, people to call (bills etc). Think and plan for every possability - dont let it stress you, most of the problems you forsee wont happen, but if you plan then you wont be suprised on the day, hand hopefully will have a solution to hand.......Oh yes and get the location of the nearest takeaway!!!
Good luck
As stoo-pid said, have the bedding ready! I changed all our beds a couple of days before we moved and put the whole lot into black bags on moving day, they went straight on the beds while I was waiting for Pizza Hut to deliver!!
The one thing I didn't have was enough cleaning materials - we moved into a rather dirty house!
To save you writing the room location if you are not using specialist removal boxes ( where you just tick the top ) go to a pound shop and get a roll or two of thick sticky (sello) tape and some cheapie post-it note squares.Pick a colour for each room to make it easy to get the boxes to the right location.Stick the door with the right colour at the other end, and the location of stuff is easy.As many colours as possible.
Remember light in weight items can go in big boxes, a whole bedworths of linen in a tv box. is ok , but when you are shattered it is better to have smaller heavier boxes of books etc.
Get the locks on the new house changed ASAP
Put a bog roll, a bulb,a towel & soap, and some plasters in the kettle and tea bag box.
Pack three or four boxes a night for a few weeks to break the back of packing : it always takes longer than you think.
If you don't want to have to rewash crystal and crocks after packing in newspaper, put a bit of tissue paper between the item and the paper.
