Yesterday afternoon I made a planned visit to the hospital. On duty was a consultant called Steve. He had 5 underlings with him, all called James. Also on duty was a male nurse called James...and the ward clerk was also called James.
Are James taking over the NHS?
I'm not sure this informality sits well on doctors. You couldn't really imagine Sir Samuel Sqad, FRCS, being too happy about being called Sammy by one and all.
