If it wasn't for lack of social interaction with other children for my lone child, oh and lack of money, I'd do this in a heartbeat,what a fantastic experience.

sounds like a great idea; get to know your country. Parents would have to work on the home schooling, I suppose. And it might be tougher for a single child not having friends to hand - they'll meet plenty but may not get to know them for long. But yes, they'd learn so much.

Absolutely. My aunty did that. She took her daughter out of school and travelled round Europe. Her daughter is a scientist now (don't ask me what kind)

I would wonder about the 4 family members being isolated without other company for a year together in a caravan and remaining in perfect harmony.

From the article it does seem that they will receive the standard curriculum education along with the added extras due to their travels.

yes, the single child thing would bother me a lot (bother Mini Boo more I imagine!) however there's 2 of them in that particular family of a similar age, so shouldn't be THAT bad for them should it?

There's a big camp of people on educational caravan trips near to where I live. The council want to move them on.

It sounds like a great idea to be fair.

hmmm, there aren't many doors to slam when they're in a strop I suppose. My youngest used to upstairs and bang every cupboard and drawer and five minutes later he was over it. :)

Banging doors in a strop is a must!

I remember Elder Mini Boo doing it once to her bedroom door when she was a teen, and the handle fell off on her side, took us hours to *ahem* hear her banging to come out again...honest! ;-)

Did it for my two when son was 6 and daughter 8 - took them out of school and taught them myself by correspondence. Did them no harm whatsoever, they are now both very self reliant, sociable and successful adults and parents.

banging doors is all very well as long as you don't mind the caravan ending up lying on its side

But to be away from friends and your interests under the close scrutiny of your parents 24/7 for the next 365 days? A lot of pressure all round no matter how much compromise there is. And if you want to get away for a few hours by yourself - where to?
