I woke up after being out for half an hour sat on a chair on stage..I did not do anything daft, thank goodness..my last thought before I drifted off was how evil the hypnotist`s voice was !
My husband was advised by his doctor to try hypnosis when he wanted to give up smoking. He did and it worked after two sessions. That was nearly fifty years ago and he's not smoked since.
I had hypnotherapy (with a medical practitioner) many years ago for my anxiety state. It wasn't a quick fix, but it worked. You have to want it to work, and go with it.

I wouldn't do anything like stage hypnosis, very dodgy IMO.
I had hypnosis some years ago for giving up smoking .Complete fail and it cost me two hundred quid .I eventually managed to give it up by being a total *** to everybody for a fortnight by going cold turkey ....lol.
Your husband did well there DSJ .I think in my case I'm one of those people who are not susceptible to brainwashing :)
That's kind of what I mean, shaney - if you go in sceptical, it's less likely to work.
Very true ..boxy
You have to want a cure and I don't think at that time I wanted to give up as I was under a lot of stress so I suppose I fought against it in a way .
A friend of mine was hypnotised by a stage hypnotist. She carried out his instructions to the letter and, although she was awake the whole time, when she came off stage she swore she had no memory of what she'd done. She made me laugh though. :o)

Wow, some interesting replies there. Have tried a few hypnotic cd's but cant say that I was ever 'out for the count'.
Perhaps Im not hypnotysable
My dad gave up smoking after 30 years after hypnosis. Yes, there is such a thing- not sure about hypnosis tapes? Do those teach you how to hyonotise yourself? I don't know how they work.
You may not be hypnotisable nailit, but I think to try this one should have an expert hypnotist not a CD which I don't have much faith in myself.

does getting drunk count as hypnotised? I'm under the spell then. No awarenes, suceptable to suggestion and liable to do stupid things on stage?
Thanks Shaneystar for reminding me I've saved £200 by not having hypnosis to stop smoking. Years ago my SIL did stop smoking the hypnosis worked for a while then she went back to him for a 'refresher session' that only worked for a couple of months and she got fed up with it - she is still smoking. My daughter went to a hypnotherapist to lose weight years ago. But it didn't work I think it cost her £60 at the time. Now she is slim because she changed her lifestyle, took up tennis and exercise, and eating the right foods.
Many years ago, I had hypnotherapy by my then, GP. I had a stammer for many years. The hypnotherapy sorted it all out. Now, I can't shut up !!
Hypnosis is real, and often works. Some people under hypnosis can experience a form of resistance to pain - some people can have hypnosis to help at the dentist's, for instance.
A few years back the town was collecting for a local Parent's, I wanted to win a £100 in a Karaoke contest, the song was called " Unchained Melody" I got Hypnotised as I did not want to forget the words, the song went well, but I failed to win the Money.
