Whirly Clothes Lines For The Disabled Person

Does anyone know where to get a whirly type clothes line that can be lowered on its pole to about waist height so a disabled person can load the line with washing and then raise it to its drying position by some easy to use pulley system. The raising mechanism needs to be such that only minimal physical arm/body strength is needed to raise the whirly line fully loaded with damp clothes.

Thanks Boxtops, I am still trying to work out quite how it works however I agree with Boo the end user (she who will be obeyed) has just poured cold water on possible purchase on cost grounds.

Isn't everything expensive which is designed for the less able? My friend had a toddler who needed a crawling aid due to disability - it looked a lot like a skateboard to me, but as a disability aid, it was hideously expensive!

It looks like a simple string and spring arrangement to me. The default position is up and to wind the string in to tension the spring when it's down. I would imagine the handle clips into a hole or something.
I'm sure a tinkerer could modify an existing one.

It might be easier to stand an airer in the garden and put the washing on that. You may have to wash fewer items but life would be easier.

Although it's a good idea an airier would be unstable outside in the garden.
We are considering cutting the pole shorter on the existing whirly line so as to lower it. We've had to abort boxtops suggestion purely on cost grounds.

Do you live in a hurricane valley? Why would it be unstable? I have a fold down airer which would be fine in the garden, on the patio.

Tilly2 I live in an area where wind is funnelled so an airer would not be very stable. My last rotary was wrenched out of its moorings.

If you had the garden area available you could consider a conventional clothes line i.e. two posts with the line between them. One post could have a small zinc pulley on top with which the line is threaded and brought down to within reach of the wheelchair user. A reel with a crank handle could be attached to the post and the line lowered, loaded and then cranked up to horizontal height with out too much effort on the arms. We do not know, however, the garden/yard area you have to give much more advice.

A line and prop is out of the question the landlord won't allow it, also the garden only has room for a whirly. Tent pegging an airier is not possible the lady could not do it, too much hassle for her.
I usually put out the washing but it's difficult for the lady when I'm away chasing bad guys.
