Big Jenny There is a difference between laughing at 'howlers' in an email or online, and that of criticising a post on a forum and making assumptions about the literacy skills of the author. I find that in a debate, if someone gets cornered on a subject, they bring out the Grammar and Spelling Police. It's as if they have nothing else of intelligence to say, but still want to demonstrate their perceived superior intellect.
Oh and in Plymouth they showed a film called 'Humaniod'

and I managed to buy a discounted LP by an unknown composer called 'HADYN' - -he was good - late eighteenth century....
Retrochic, your last sentence reminds me of the adage "A wise person speaks when they have something to say; a fool speaks just to say something." By the way, as I know that you're interested in things retro, take a look at my thread from yesterday "Old Money".

Sorry, I seem to have opened a can of worms here. I was not "mocking" anyone. I just found the post rather amusing and would place it amongst the thousands of 'howlers' I read every day. Local rag reported that the driver had to break suddenly to avoid a child. My imagination did the rest.
Maggiebee, in case you're wondering, my post at 13:06 was referring to Retro's last sentence not you. By the way, I really don't think that you have to apologize.
We can all make mistakes, but sometimes the results are very funny. After many years of teaching I can't decide if our school newsletter (written by pupils) which stated, 'The fifth form gave a pubic performance of ....' (very possible!) or a notice in a local travel agent's window advertising flights from 'Leed's/Bradford' wins the prize! You have to smile!
I do not mock people believe it or not! not like a few on here, there are many person that I know who have become millionaire's that can not read, spell, but have one hell of a head for business.
Agreed TWR - my grammar and spelling are pretty good, but I'm not well off and if I have a broken lawnmower (for example) I need someone who can fix it. I have said 'Horses for courses' for so many years that I am tired of the repetition. That's why we need different systems of education (all with EQUAL VALIDITY!)
When it comes to public examinations no amount of fee paying dictates if a pupil gets a writer, etc - that would be down to the pupil's statement and the severity of their special need. Paying £18000+ might get lots of extra support in everyday lessons, it doesn't pay for a GCSE.
I blame bad teaching
Just to add to this, My son In Law has a (A1) Computer brain, very well educated, but common sense, as this as S---T, Example, we were moving a shed in their new house, distance about 30 ft, he wanted to strip the shed completely in turn, replacing the roof felt ect, my way was to use 3 scaffold pipes under the shed 6 persons, 3 each side to do the lift, he said what a stupid Idea, I make a fool of his so called brains, I was called a silly Basd for even suggesting the Idea.
sherradk - my daughter was statemented severely dyslexic with dyspraxia. She had limited help in State school ( 1 hour a week plus a free laptop). She would have got a writer in private school or state school. Private school got her loads more support -you are correct. No doubt if she posted on here she would get flamed by certain people for her spelling but perhaps not her grammar -to be honest if that infuriates people that's their problem .
One that makes me smile is seen frequently on Tripadvisor. The reviewer is impressed with a hotel or organisation and will definitely return...but the review states that they will defiantly return.
Retrochic - thing 2 gets 10 hours a week support for his speech problem, maybe different authorities offer different levels of support?
I can't be mithered.
