... salt on a meal without tasting it?

Just had a really good meal in a French Brasserie - on my own, so lots of time for 'people watching'.

Was amazed just how many people sprinkle salt all over their meal, before tasting any of it. I could understand a few grains on some chips, but not a general deluge.

The food was excellent (and very accurately seasoned) - so why are people doing this?

And do you?

We dont pt salt or pepper on the table. and dont use it for food at all.Last time i used salt was for defrosting ice outside the back door.! I buy the crisps with the blue sachet of salt in it and always throw the salt away. it really isnt needed.
I put salt in the chip pan when I'm frying chips, tastes much better than added salt later...........
No. I use salt for mash, scrabbled eggs and sauces. Never add it after.
