Firstly thanks to Eve for last week's thread:

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Food-and-Drink/Question1362900.html

There are now only 6 bakers left and we are more than half way through (shame).

We are looking at a very tricky technical challenge of a Swedish princess torte, which has 24 different stages!!!

The show stopper is an individual interpretation of the multi-layered Hungarian cake, dobos torte.

Here is a teaser clip :-)

NOTICE TO GRUMPY PEOPLE: If you are posting here to complain about the Great British Bake Off being on again, how "boring" you find it, or to ask "what's the point" you will be suspended. This is fair warning. To be absolutely clear: we don't care what you think about GBBO :)

A Dobos Torte was an exam piece when I was training!

Both look too complicated for me! A simple Victoria sponge is my speciality!

i really like this end bit where the baking gets very tricky :-)
A Dobos Torte was an exam piece when I was training!
Could be a really interesting one then tonight!

I think Chetna might be a bit wobbly tonight. I am hoping that the lovely builder will do well as he is quite precise and well planned about things.

Hoping Kate will also do well.

Wonder if the Hungarian cake is like a traditional wedding cake I helped make back in Romania years ago, sounds quite similar with lots of thin layers, made by the ladies at the wedding (me helping not realising it was only meant to be married ladies....).

I think there may be a lot of stressful bakers tonight.
I am looking forward to watching this. I don't envy them though.
I'm surprised by how into this programme I have become, I haven't watched in the past because I didn't think it would be my cup of tea.
It took a while for me to give it a try, mainly because everyone kept talking about it, but once I started watching last series I was hooked.
What prize do they win or is it like Masterchef where they go off and write a book or get their own TV show?
Looks like the Muppets taking on baking when it comes to this 26 ingredient 14 stages Swedish curling stone of a cake!
Bit of a horror of a blind challenge with a limited recipe!

Only Luis seemed to be the only one who knew what it was meant to be.

Arghh Kate and Richard, my predictions are sinking tonight :(

Nancy did really well in that.
Do they have any advance notice of what they are to bake? One of them had said it had worked at home( the dobos torte).
The middle technical challenge is the only unknown one. They can choose what they do for the first one as long as it's in the theme, same with the final but that is meant to be more spectacular.
Dirty trick covering the cake in marzipan though (yuck).
Eeek! Wow...
Well, given my upside down predictions, I'm very happy with that ending :)

That was bit disappointing but not surprising as they had to do it at some stage to get things back on schedule.

SPOILER!!!!

sorry couldn't post last night but what a show!

Not a fan of marzipan but that green cake looked delicious :-)

also i agree with sherrardk about them keeping both as they had lost two the other week. Kind of glad though as I felt for kate having been star baker last week then dropping right down and richard had done so well earlier.

I quite like the look of martha, she reminds me of Ruby from last year :-)
