I have recently become the proud owner of a new VW Beetle and I love it! I have one problem though - I have trouble shutting the boot! It takes me 2 or 3 (sometimes more)attempts to get it shut properly. Every time I think its shut, I realise it hasn't actually locked into place and I can lift the boot up again. Is there a technique?
it may be the actual latch thats faulty as from working with vw, this is a common fault with vw.see if the striker (the part the latch catches to) if that can be adjusted by slackening the two spline bolts not sure if u can, even take it back to vw if still under warranty hope that helps
Thanks for the advice! I'm afraid to say that being a girlie, technical stuff like this goes way over my head! I will get my lovely pa to have a look at it for me and see if he can mend it. Unfortunately the bug is a 2000 reg, so she is out of warranty now! Grrrr!
but if uve not long bought the car the garage mite give u a warranty with them usually a month, dunno wat u situation is with ur car but goodluck anyway
Any VW has very good airtight seals around the doors which can make it difficiult to close a door or boot, so before you start adjusting the boot latch I suggest you open a window slightly and then close the boot using the same effort. If the problem remains then you will have to move the latch slightly, if not, try closing the boot but keep the hand pressure on right through the push. Hope that's clear. I speak as a double VW owner.
Hi! Thanks for the advice - i gave it a go this afternoon (kept the drivers door open) and there was a definate improvement in the closing of the boot. Thanks again! :o)
