Pop Ups

Had a neighbour in tonight explaining to me that she can get nowhere on laptop for pop ups coming up all the time. She has to close them all before she can see the page she is on. No sooner done that and more comes up. Never had this so could not help her, any one help on this one?
She said it was all things she had been looking at on other sites sometimes clicked to close it and a bigger one opened.

Did she do a full scan with Malwarebytes?

She could also try clearing her cookies.
