Anbody tried Branston Baked Beans

Apparently these are selling rapidly and outperforming the Heinz variety. If you've tried them, which brand did you prefer?

I prefer the Branston (Crosse & Blackwell) variety. When I was a child, mum always got Crosse & Blackwell beans as dad preferred them to any others. Mum always says, I'm just like my father!

I have some inside info here, Branston beans will not taste so good when they reduce the salt levels in line with government recommendations. So enjoy them for the next few months, they wont be tasting the same after that.

I am a school cook and when we ordered Baked beans, we were sent the Branston variety and I must admit, before we always had some beans left over after serving, we actually run out now! So kids seem to be prefering the Branston variety!

Branston are the better of the two. Never much liked the Heinz ones before anyway. Sainsburys own variety with pork sausages are the best ones though!

I did the taste test at Asda's and preferred the Branston ones, mind you I have never liked Heinz beans, they always seem hard to me.

Well, here's one voice in favour of HEINZ. I still prefer them to Branston.

And when you open a can of Heinz it is crammed full to the top. I have found with Branston that there is about an inch of sauce on top -- so obviously less beans!

Branston have been well advertised and many people are prepared to try something new. The proof of the pudding will be in several months time to see if they are still buying them or have returned to the old faithfull.

Tried the "ordinary" Branston beans; not impressed at all. Sauce was bland, tasteless and a horrible brownish colour; beans themselves were nothing special.

On looking at the tin, I noticed that they come from the same factory as Hartleys, Smedleys and those other horrible cheap brands you used to get in Kwik Save; and thinking about it they taste the same too!

My favourite; Morrisons' own brand, taste and look very much like HP beans, but much cheaper. More than likely to have come out of the same factory as HP of course; as a haulier who's done bulk distribution for supermarkets, you get to know who makes what for whom, despite the "brand"manufacturers' claims that they don't!

I am a life-long Heinz fan. My parents gave them to me when I was a child & now I gave them to my kids - and they love them. I have tried giving the kids Branston Beans, and I have tried them myself, but found them slightly soggy and the taste a bit flat. I tried them just to give the benefit of the doubt, but if anything they only confirmed to me that Heinz are the nos. 1 choice. Plus the Heinz variety have less sugar in them than Branston and as a Father, I feel it is important that my kids enjoy healthy, tasty food stuffs, so I am happier giving them Heinz Baked Beans. Besides, Heinz have been around forever - they are like a British institution and I have always trusted them.
