Iphone3Gs Wont Charge

When clearing out our cupboard we found an old iphone3gs. Its probs been "dead" at least a year but more likely 2 or 3 years. Tryna charge it now but altho the red battery charging shows on the screen it doesnt charge. Been plugged in bout half n hour. Do you think its completely busted?

Can you connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone.

Ok will try. Thanks. Is it possible by the way that after being "dead" for so long the battery is just busted?

Plugged into pc opened itunes. (Not sure if I did that right even lol) and I dont see phone. Also searched my pc under *my device's* and phone isnt there. Is this because its still not charging? Also how long should I try charge it before I simply give up? Sorry to seem so dim.

I'd leave it charging overnight, then try a couple of re-sets whereby you press the home and standby buttons simultaneously.

Ok thanks....have tried reset a number of times already. I mean tis no biggie if it dont work but its bugging me like mad lol. Want to see what pics we have on there in case we didnt save em at that time.

It should have shown in iTunes if it was alive. Keep it on charge for an hour or two...any sign of increase charging then try a reboot.

Keep the power button and the Home button pressed for 20/30 seconds and see if the white apple appears.

I would imagine you'll get an Update or three after that amount of time.

I'd have thought the battery was knackered, do you know anyone you could borrow one from?

Thanks for all the answers. :) prudie dont suppose n iphone 4 or 5 battery will fit?

Apparently not. They are about £6 on Amazon with the tools you need to actually get at it but I expect you'd rather be sure first that's what's wrong. I'd follow the advice of Chilli & Jomlett first, leave it much longer
