Changing Curtain Headings

I have been given some lovely stripped Laura Ashley Curtains but they are ever so slightly too narrow
If I have the curtains headings changed from curtain tape to those eyelet fastenings will that make them wider?
I hope this all makes sense - I know what I mean

it will not change the width of the curtains it may alter the drop

I can afford to lose a little off the bottom
I just thought the curtains would not need to be gathered in so much

are the headings currently gathered? If you undo the gathers that will make the curtains wider, often by quite a lot.

graeme - I think the OP means that if they take the pleat out of the heading, it will make the curtains wider.

Ric.....I bought some fantastic new curtains from a charity shop with headings that needed to be changed to gain width.

I took off the old headings, replaced with buckram and pleated them myself to my width....

Is that possible?

But having said that.....if they are only slightly too narrow as they are then eyelets should work as long as there is enough fabric for each ring to swivel.

It really does depend what sort of header is on the curtains at the moment - undoing pleated headers and making them tab-top would release a lot of width of the fabric. Bear in mind also that header tape runs just below the top of the curtain, whereas tab rings will lower the top of the curtain, giving you more length too. If you're doing tabs, IMO, you'll need poles rather than a curtain track.

Have vertical blinds fitted then you won't have to close the curtains.
