Torque Convertor

Hi. I'm asking this for my partner. He has a Mitsubishi Galant, which does not drive. It starts up, revvs up but does not go anywhere. It seems it might be the Torque Convertor, which someone told him indoors could be replaced. However, the Mitsubishi garage claims Torque Convertors cannot be replaced and a new gear box would be needed. Any ideas? Cheers

if it's an auto there is an oil filled torque con instead of a clutch. look in the engine compartment behind the engine dipstick there may be another dipstick. that will be for the 't.c.' it uses a different oil to the engine usually so make sure you use the right stuff.

Yes it's an auto, but the oil situation is fine...can we just get a new TC?

before you go lashing out money on a 'tc' make sure that is the problem. don't 'fix it' and then find it was something else after all!

What "expert" did you consult indoors?

It's probably nothing to do with the torque convertor.

I am sure Mitsubishi knows best!

There could be a small fault in the gearbox or the box could need renewing, try a garage that knows about auto boxes, it will cost a lot less than a mitsubishi dealer!

The only torque convertors I ever heard of failing is on dragsters, I agree with the others above, go to a auto-gearbox specialist not the mitsubishi agents. this sounds more like a simple problem with the selector system.

I know this sounds stupid but have you checked the linkages from the gearstick to the gearbox?
