However, at the time the transaction was processed you must have had sufficient funds in your account otherwise the transaction would have been declined. Through an epos system a debit card transaction is instantaneous. There is no "clearing " period as with a cheque.

you paid by debit card. It will probably just get declined if it is processed manually later (such as a small firm) and the company may ring/email to get alternative payment details. If the transaction was approved when you ordered online, then yes it will push you o/d and you may or may not be charged, depending on how much you have gone over your limit. Some banks offer a small buffer (�10 or so) within which you will not be charged.
