I have had ESTA s before but this time the travel agent did them, my pal Mags one was accepted straight away but mine was "pending" for a couple of hours and though the travel agent assured me this often happens I nearly had a heart attack waiting for the approval which came a few hours later. Apparently they do this every so often, but nothing had changed since my last ESTA, except my blood pressure !

You probably bought a box of dates, from a middle-eastern country, last Christmas. That's all you need to be classed as a potential terrorist these days ;-)

because I have done a lot of travelling this year inc Goa, Zambia and Europe some clever dick said they probably think you are a drug runner this made me more paranoid ! especially as I have already paid for everything Chris, I tell you I had visions of me pleading at the Embassy for help, so happy that everything was okay. Perhaps if I was younger I would have taken it all in my stride but at 76 years young I don't need hassle. Vegas here we come.
Has anyone warned Vegas that you're coming, Dee Sa?
;-)
The delay could be because there is someone on their database that has a similar name to yours and it took the US authorities a little longer to check it out before they granted you an ESTA
BTW if you have done lots of travelling this year, that won`t make any difference.

Methyl -really? Nobody travels more than me and I can tell you that it doesn`t make any difference. Maybe you have more experience and you can impart some info?

Methyl - I don`t have an ESTA because I have two US visas. I recently had to apply for my new one which lasts 10 years. I had to list every country that I have been in during the last year. I ran out of space on the form because I couldn`t fit all of the countries in the space that was provided. I had to have an interview at the US embassy in London when I got my visas. I can tell you that the countries that one has been in make no difference and I should know because I have been in most of them!

Chris I have not warned them I thought it would be a nice surprise ! this is my eighth visit I just love it ! Disney for grown ups ! I am a Londoner born & bred but do have a hyphenated name but when I have twice applied for Estas before they have gone straight through. Travel agent said he has had a family of four where three have gone through and the fourth "on wait", so may be they do random checks.
BC has almost got it

Scientist wrote a good article being a suspected terrorist.
His sin was to have a surname which was also a word in Arabic
Yamey - almost "yawmi" which is sort of 'every day'

His tormentors were mid western dough boys with no knowledge of the world - 'this place, Nizeria....' Well OK it was his turn and he made them look very thick
