Claim Society?
9 Answers
Having been a passenger involved in a car accident earlier this week, I have had backache, neck pain, nausea and a headache. Also have a bruised side and a painful leg. This I can deal with. However, anyone that has found out that I was involved in an accident (i'm a closed person, i do not give information freely in my private life unless ness) have not asked me how I am, but gave me advice about how to claim, who to phone, what to say to make my symptoms seem worse etc to get the most money. This really winds me up! I popped to the docs today, but made it clear straight off that I was not there for a sick note/notes on file for a claim etc, but that I wanted to be checked over - he seemed surprised. He confirmed my suspicions that I have whiplash.
Even my MIL suggested I purport this and that, but it's just not me. Are we just a 'get what you can' society?

hope your feeling better soon, don't be surprised if the phone calls start next offering to make a claim on your behalf.

Hope you feel better soon. My daughter had a car accident, she was shocked but in uninjured, within a day of her accident she'd had phone calls from companies telling her she could get comp, even when she said she was uninjured, they still kept saying she could be. She didn't claim, it's shocking that these companies got her number and harassed her.
I've had phone calls already, all because the driver had to name the passengers. It's so wrong. Yes, I'm in a small amount of pain, but I haven't missed work at all, haven't incurred any costs (apart from finishing work a couple of hours early today to see a doc). So what would I be claiming for!?! It doesn't make sense. And thankyou fairy, I plan to be bouncing around again soon.
Dee - I had a call asking me my details, injuries etc from what I thought was my friends insurance company. I assumed it was to get all the details they need, being a witness etc. I think I was very naive because the calls started shortly after! I was not listening 100% as I was at work at the time and concentrating on other things. Even my boss was peed off that I went home early today to see my GP rather than asking how I was!
There are claims and claims. A genuine claim where your future earnings are affected and your whole life has been changed through ongoing pain and disability, I can understand but there are probably many more claims that aren't genuine or have been emphasized that give the genuine claimants a bad name as everybody thinks they are out for what they can get.
Hope your condition improves and you are feeling better.

I totally agree with you.
This claim culture, as you are probably aware, even extends to some of the recent high profile news stories (i'm trying not to go on a tangent). It pains me that people can't see the bigger picture...the pain , discomfort and distress. Those poor people are seen as money grabbers.
It would never occur to me to ever claim for a recoverable accident.
I hope you feel better real soon and that you also you get some help for the odds and ends which are difficult when you're feeling sore..
