wrong link. I don't have a problem with MPs getting a decent wage, and expenses for a second home near Westminster if necessary. But I think they should give up all outside work, and work for me, as I'm paying them.

oh, I see what you mean by the link. I think this is actually a catchup pay rise for MPs. Anyway, it's in the hands of an independent body, which it should be.

I think doctors, nurses and surgeons do more important work. We need more medical staff. We don't need, yet another, MP. THEY can be replaced at any time, and usually are. !

They won't, nor should they actually. If a genuinely independent body's been set up to oversee their pay, they should abide by what it says, whether it's politically embarrassing or not.

What they need is a good basic salary, with less opportunity for thieving and swindling on the various expenses fiddles they've had in the past.
Then when such thievery is exposed, they can be treated accordingly instead of avoiding prosecution by paying it back.

Their work is more than sitting in the house of commons. It also often does not mean a 9:00 to 17:00.

Whilst we all like to poke at politicans, myself included, many of them, on all sides of the house, are dedicated to their cause and work hard for it.

Of course there are bad apples, but please dont tar all with the same brush or make such sweeping comments

When I had a job/ career I wasn't allowed to work for anybody else. The same should apply to MPs. If they are doing their job conscienciously they will not have time to be lobbyists or 'consultants' (bribe accepters).

That doesn't necessarily follow. If they're proven to be not genuinely independent, that's another matter, and they should be investigated for corruption.

Considering the way that they have treated the public, local councils, Fire Services, etc., I think that they too should be on fixed income for the next four years and reduce the number of MPs by 10%. Why do we need over 600 MPs anyway? It would also help to get the deficit down a bit quicker.
