Is it bad for me to go to the gym five times a week?


I usually do the bike, cross trainer and treadmill.

its not bad for you!! i go 7 times a week for 2 hrs at a time and i feel fantastic!!!!

I just heard that you need to give your body a rest so I wasn't sure if i was doing too much.

Thats fantastic! It's very healthy to get your heart rate up everyday. The heart is a muscle just like everything else, and needs to be treated and worked as muscle. It is, of course, possible to over-work yourself, so if you're incredibly sore just take a day off, or cut back on the amount your doing. Keep it up, you'll be all the healthier because of it!

The best thing to do if you go so often is to switch what you do each time. For example, I do my weights for upper body and lower body on alternating gym visits. I do cardio every time.
A recent article in a newspaper said doing the housework is better than going to the Gym, and you work off more calories.

That's interesting lonnie, but I don't believe it for a minute that I would burn more calories doing housework! I don't even break into a sweat when doing the hoovering!!
Lonnie- I've heard things like that too, but obviously it's obsurd, simply because for you to burn a large amount of calories your heart rate needs to be between certain numbers. It's actually very interesting.

How many calories do you burn when doing housework then Lonnie?!?!?!!!!

Thats not bad for you at all.. we should all do at least 30 mins of exercise a day.. even when prego... I go 4-6 days a week running and biking and weights. I do one week hard and the next week light.... and so on.... And its great you are cross training.. that is better on your body then just sticking to one thing// GOOD JOB GAL keep it up!!!

Thanks everyone. I might go six times - there is some very nice eye candy at my gym!!
Well last night I hoovered and washed the carpets, don't know about calories, but I worked up a sweat.
