Am I An Illegal Immigrant?
11 Answers
I've received a letter from the local authority telling me that my registration for a postal vote has been unsuccessful and I must prove my identity.
I am somewhat baffled as it was a re registration and I only needed to sign the form they sent. I have lived at the same address for 17 years and have been on electoral roll for the entire period.
I will call the council offices on Monday as I can only assume they have made an error.
It feels quite strange to be challenged to prove who I am!

I am an illegal immigrant - the last time we went to France, several years ago, we sailed through customs etc to get out of the country, passport check etc. When we got to Calais to come home the chap looked at my passport , looked at me, grinned and said " Madame's passport is out of date", he then waved us through. Needless to say, no-one this side of the channel noticed - thank goodness.
Your council must have far stricter controls than mine Jeza.
My letter requests a variety of different forms of ID in three categories.
If I cannot provide one form from Cat 1 I have the I option to offer a couple from Cat 2 or finally four from Cat 3.
And I don't need to leave the house as I have the option of sending a scanned document.
I don't mind per se proving my identity, in a previous career I was endlessly going through security checks, but it strikes me as odd that with no change of circumstances I have been flagged this time.
