Guys on the pull

When you single guys are out on the pull with your mates, do you just go for anything female or do you home in on specific things, for example, can you tell if a lady is interested or can't you? Are you just trying your luck with anyone?

In my experience going out as a single guy on the pull never gets you anywhere. The more I have tried the more I have failed. The only times I have suceeded is when a girl has either noticed me looking at her or I have noticed her looking at me and we have both smiled. I kind of take that to mean she is interested,
