letterman paintings

To all, I think I can help you in to better understand why your not able to find Letterman the artist. I also have have a Letterman painting. It's a large a large painting as well. It is canvas and has a dark green background with large brown and white flowers. I am a macho kind of guy, but fell in bound to buy it when I first set eyes on it almost 30years ago. Yes I bought it new and at that time the retail was around $400 if my memory serves me. I purchase the painting at JCPenney and it was very popular then as it is now. The reason I remember is that I was a Merchandise Manager for JCPenney at the time. And Penneys sold a ton of these at the time, which is why there is still so many out there!
I still own the painting and have close to selling it many many times over the years! I too just love it and can't seem to part from and it looks as good as it did the day I purchase it!!!

I've had a google, em - it seems as if it may not be one person at all, but a pseudonym for Chinese painters who paint shedloads of paintings for export then prints are taken from them. When I was picture-framing years ago, I often used to buy shipments from the Far East - often signed by spurious Western-sounding names.

Once again, Letterman raises his hoary head. Boxtops' reply is on the right lines. Here's part of my answer to a question on the subject back in April 2011...
"I'm reminded of the phantom artist 'Letterman', who also had paintings bought by people from all over the world, and they wanted to know more about the artist. (Google for 'letterman answerbank' and you'll see what I mean). Some of this work was being sold for ridiculous amounts. Suspicions arose when people found that identical paintings were being sold in different parts of the world. It turned out that the name was being used by an Indonesian art factory workshop, where 'Letterman' paintings were being churned out daily by the dozen. It only takes a quick glance at such paintings by any art dealer for these works to be identified straight away. Alas, many of the public remain gullible."

I, too, am looking to find more information about the artist. I have had a Letterman that is titled Wild 70's Psychedelic for 30 years and still love it. It is the focal point of my living room. I have seen a number of this artist's paintings for sale on http://cheap-r.com, but have not been able to learn anything about the artist. I saw an answer on another website that said there are three painters named Letterman; Martin Letterman, Antoinette Letterman, and G. Lettermann. Perhaps it is one of them. Usually an artist wants to be known. It is interesting that it has been so difficult to find any information on this artist. If anyone learns anything about this artist I would appreciate knowing what you find out. I just saw a post by Heathfield that said the paintings were cranked out in mass by an Indonesian company. That would make sense as to why the artist information is so elusive. If that is so, I am sad that I cannot thank the artist because I love the painting. I do recall that years ago I visited a furniture or drapery shop in Salt Lake City that had an upholstery fabric that exactly matched my painting.
