Furniture Refurbishment

I want to refurbish my dark wood dining table & chairs.

I have been looking at an American product named MinWax Polyshades. However, it appears to be unavailable here, except maybe to purchase it through Amazon.

I am wondering if there is an alternative product here? Thanks for any help.

Well Wolfgang ..... I want to rub the dining table down with find sand paper and then give it a coat of a suitable stain. Sadly because the table is placed in front of the patio windows (for many years now and with lots of sun), the wood surface appears to have dried out and 'split' in places. I did stain a large mirror surround with a dark stain and being new wood, the satin finish was beautiful. However, I know I cannot achieve such a result with this table.

Also, the tudor design chairs, two being carvers, have actually become light in colour across the top where continually handled over the years!

Use an outdoor stain and then wax it with clear wax.

Unless you have experience in doing this type of thing (and judging by your question, you haven't) you could make a right royal mess. You're really talking about French polishing which is a painstaking and skilled process.

Bri-wax is perfect for so many things and might be just the job for your table & chairs after you sand it down. A tub costs about a tenner from ebay and lasts a long time. I recently did my interior doors and staircase in 'rustic pine' and they look wonderful, actually more like oak than pine.

Hi ZM - I really don't think I am talking about french polish which I know would be a professional job. The table has not really got that type of finish. It previously had just a nice 'flat' sheen. I'm still open to suggestions though! Will give Daffy's solution thought. Lots of thnx.
