Are Some Dog Foods Worse Than Others At Causing A Dog To Smell?

I know all dogs smell but my latest rescue dog really whiffs. The smell seems to seep out of his skin and I can only assume that it's the food I feed him. It is the usual doggy smell but very strong. And I'm wondering if changing to fresh raw chicken etc might alleviate it. At the moment he has Nature's Diet soft food, just a slice, mixed with James Wellbeloved Fish & Rice Complete, not the most expensive but far from the cheapest either, like say Orijen. He's a JR/CorgiX.

I don't want to use air freshener, I want to stop the cause, if possible. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

If Ratter's about I'd be interested to know his experience regarding the above and what exactly he feeds his Wolfies.

We feed raw to our dogs in the sense that they are fed raw 4 times per day but between times they have Redmills put down so they can ' graze' at it. This was suggested by one of our Wolfhound breeders as an anti bloat prevention ( stops them super scoffing their food)- no idea if it really works but with bloat anything that might help prevent it is good by me so we do it. Previous dogs we've had have also been raw fed and have attained good long lives and none of them smell.

Interesting, how long has he been smelly? Its just that on facebook there has been a lot of posts about Nature Diet, they seem to have changed their manufacturing process recently, and many people are complaining about it being a mushier consistency and also there have been a lot of complaints of 'blown' cartons that are rotten inside and going black and smelly. Several wholesalers have stopped stocking it, and after many complaints the manufacturers have put out a press release but it has not helped the situation, as those complaining have not been able to get in touch with them, and cannot get refunds on their duff products. There is another company who produce a similar product called Nature's Menu, manufactured by Anglian Meat Products - many have changed to that (they do raw food as well). On another subject bathing them is ok provided you use a suitable shampoo, some show dogs are bathed before every show and their coats are in excellent condition. Personally though I only bath mine if they roll in something smelly, or maybe before Crufts!

I feed my dog Burn's chicken and rice.............he doesn't smell unless he pumps.

Craft I'm a big fan of Burns and have fed it to many of my dogs over the years but this one was used to James Wellbeloved so I carried on with it.
Now that's interesting Lankeela, thank you. I buy his ND from Berriedale supplies who have been emailing me that they are having supply difficulties with it and pressing me to take Forthglade instead! But I suspect that's not the whole truth after what you have said. But mine have been fine, no blown packets, all up to the usual good standard.
My plan is not to buy any more manufactured food and to gradually introduce a variety of raw meat as Ratter has advised and see how we go. And of course I will mention it to our vet on our next visit (for his foot).
Regarding the smell, I noticed it when I brought him home from rescue the day I got him. He's an independent little chap, not one who demands a lot of fuss and was always content in his own company. I was told he liked different resting places and he does. But now his favourite place is next to me on the sofa and so of course I can smell him more. And yes it has got stronger.

I feed Reeva Millie's Wolfheart and have no problem with smells , haven't even noticed smelly wind from her.
