Asking Butchers For Bones For The Dog

Do butchers mind if you ask them for a bone for the dog when you are buying other items?
I know that they might use them for stock if they make cooked food, but if not what do they usually do with them ie are they thrown away?

I don't see where it would hurt anything to ask. Most will end up in the garbage before they're put toward cooking purposes.

Rendering bones for tallow/soap/lard/glue is business. Fat & bone is bought and collected byy renderers on contract.

many years ago i owned a dog that went to the butchers and fetched his own bone

My butcher happily gives me bones despite them making their own stock for sale.

He has to pay to have the bones taken away.

We have always asked butchers for bones, rarely have we paid for any apart from chicken carcasses, all bones are safe for dogs as long as they are raw.

The butcher has to pay to have them taken away so they should be paying you in theory. If you regularly go to the butcher they should be happy to give you some
