Just went shopping to Tesco. Picked up a pack of pre-wrapped bananas which was missing a price tag of £1.00. They were the best of a bad bunch so I went to the customer scales to weigh them. What a surprise to find them weighing in at 55p. So don't think, as I did, that ready wrapped and special offer prices mean anything. They don't. I'll know better in future.

Not quite such a difference, but a while back Sainsbury's were selling bags of 5 bananas for £1 whilst singly they were priced at 19p.
The mark up is for having them nicely and readily bagged up for you .
Didn't you know that some people live such hectic and fast pace lifes , that they aint got the time to put bananas in bags themselves ?
Well said bazile, that is exactly what the store is depending on,shoppers avail themselves of convenience and never bother to check!
Bananas don't even need to go in a bag.
I have lost count of the number of times I have found two small packets cheaper than one large packet of the same weight.
I'd never buy pre-packed bananas...they are typically 40 to 60% dearer per kilo than loose.
On the other hand, pre packed tomatoes were miles cheaper than loose in Sainsbury's this week.
My Sainsbury's is selling 375gm packs of pre-wrapped broccoli for 60p....but some of the packs have 2 heads in them, and add up to 700gm.
Which should I buy...?;-)
Neither. Broccoli is vile. Buy a cauli or some sprouts instead.
