Dallas Has Finally Hit The Skids Gone, Over, Finished!.

It is over ,Dallas finally after all the problems that the Ewings went through in the 80s ,2014 has finally put the old well down ,Into its 4th season TNT the American company decided to split season 4 and take it off the air for 6 months then put it back on again ,this series in its day drew 20 million + here and in the USA finally had figures of 1.7m in the USA and here well I watched ,ok I saw most of the New series having never seen the original.
Should shows from years gone by be re jigged and put out to a new tv audience ,what would you like to see come back or should they leave Well alone .

Funnilly enough i was just talking to my colleague this morning about the new dallas .

The original Dallas was compulsive viewing for millions - myself included - mainly because of the JR character played by the late Larry Hagman .

Are you sure of that figure of 20+ million for the recent series - if that's correct then i'm truly suprised .

Unfortunately original hit series are not very sucessful when they are resurected .

Dukes Of Hazard
Minder .

I could never imagine any other person than George Cole playing the character of Arthur Daly , in Minder . ( which i still watch on the satelite chanels )

Could you imagine anyone else than David Jason playing Delboy , in only fools and horses .

The one off Open all Hours was cringe-worthy, and they are going to do a series. Big mistake I think.

Even some of the spin off's are flops like, Green green grass, and that one about a young Del Boy.

I loved it the first time round and this new one wasn't too bad until Larry Hagman died .Not the same without him.They really shouldn't do remakes of this sort of thing .They're never the same.

Bazile Apologies ,the highest viewing figure for the new version was 7 Million in the USA here I would imagine I might have been the only one watching ,although they spent Hundreds of thousands on publicity bringing over Larry Hagman and Sue Ellen (I forget her real name) to put the big spin on, as they were in the new version ,obviously untill Larry Hagman died The Sue Ellen character managed to stay the course although I saw a part of an episode which was out of sequence and Sue Ellen di.. I do not wish to spoil the ending for the other person who has been watching.

Not many of the old cast left in it now .Just Linda Gray ,Ken Kercheval and Bobby although I think the other(half) brother and the poison dwarf put in an appearance in one episode .

I'd say give anything a try once again. I was convinced that the latest Dallas would be drivel, but enjoyed it more than the original series. Yet I had geared myself up for Rock and Chips, a Fools series, but did not find so delightful.

AYBS was very much of its time when there were still stores just like that, I can't even imagine a contemporary version

The re-boot of film and tv franchises is interesting.

Let's not pretend - they are done with the aim of making money - no problem with that but -

what so often happens is that they slip down the crack between the two demographics - the original audience, who don't like the remake, and the young audience, who don't remember the original and don't like the re-make, even though, for them it is original.

This happens time and again, and still tv and film producers keep imagining that there is paydirt there, when the above formula proves more often than not that there isn't.

I saw the Lone Ranger film starring Johnny Depp, and it was utterly tragic -

the original Tonto was the side-kick not the hero, and he didn't resemble a zombie as did Depp's take on the role.

The only throw-back to the TV series was the LR making his horse rear and shouting "Hi ho Silver ...away!' too which Depp replied 'Don't ever do that again ...' (Don't worry Tonto, he won't get the chance!)

But since the original TV series stopped running in the US in 1957, you'd need to be fifty-seven to have been born when it was last on TV! Not surprisingly, the 'joke' got no reaction in UK cinemas - I remember watching as a child. but I am sixty next week!

Still, they will mine the empty seams of tv and film plots in the hope that something will stick, oblivious to the fact that series and films are of their time, they belong there, they do not travel well into the future.

the finest 're-boot' idea was discussed with John Cleese by a US company who wanted to re-make Fawlty Towers, but without Basil!!!

A remake of the film Arthur was done with the ghastly Russell Brand. Why? The original with Dudley Moore was excellent and can never be bettered.
Now they're doing a Dad's Army remake. Again, why? The new cast is very good but , why do a remake of it? The original was so good .

It's one of the only programmes from my childhood that I still find funny.

I remember people thinking the Billy Cotton band Show was the highlight of sophistication when it transferred to TV - oh heck!
