Depends on how it's done -- I'd need more details as to how he proposes to do it -- but any scheme that gives me a chance at running things is just crazy. Presumably that means there'd have to be an opt-in or opt-out?

Yes, as a first point, anyone who actually wants to stand for election should be automatically excluded!

The example cited was the Constitution Committee in Ireland.

They are toothless
The 66 random representatives have very little power. Whatever they come up with can be rejected by the vote in Parliament by the politicians.

They are undemocratic
They were selected by a polling company and we all know how wrong they can be. They are anonymous which is totally conter-democratic.

In reality, the politicians aren't giving any power back to the people, it is window dressing. A gimmick to try and be inclusive to the public, but in reality the politicians are not bound by it.
